In accordance with the appropriate provisions of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 and the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976, a vehicle licence, known as a Proprietor's Licence, can be issued after application and once the vehicle has been tested and inspected for mechanical safety and fitness for purpose. The vehicle also has to be insured for public hire.
