Workplace regulations: Outline
The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 requires employers to assess the fire risks in the workplace where five or more people are employed then a formal record must be made of the significant findings and any measures taken to deal with them.
All Educational Establishments must ensure that fire risks are assessed either as part of their general review of health and safety risks which they already carry out or as a specific exercise.
As part of the risk assessment process the following should be considered:-
- Ignition sources.
- Combustible material.
- People who are at significant risk.
- Structural features that could promote the spread of fire.
- Existing measures to monitor the introduction of sources of heat/combustible material.
