Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet last night agreed to support Inspiring healthy lifestyle’s proposals to invest over £500k into new improvements at Chase Leisure Centre in Cannock, including a unique virtual fitness experience.

Other improvements will include gym refurbishment, introduction of virtual fitness to the existing studio; where instructors will give fitness sessions via a screen, conversion of the bowling green to an indoor cycling studio, where residents can enjoy a 40 minute cycle through a digitally created world, functional studio and multi-purpose studio and bowling mats to provide a programme within the sports hall.

This investment proposed by the Council’s leisure partner, Inspiring healthy lifestyles, is estimated to be in the region of £522,000 and will deliver further savings to the Council of at least £50,000 per annum from April 2019. Following Cabinet’s approval IHL will now further develop their proposals in consultation with all relevant clubs and users.

Councillor Christine Mitchell, Portfolio Leader for Culture and Sport said “I am very excited about the changes planned for Chase Leisure Centre.  The improvements will create a unique fitness experience for residents of Cannock Chase.  The indoor cycling studio will provide an exhilarating sensory experience combined with a cycling workout.  These planned improvements are unique for the area and a great addition to what are already excellent facilities at Chase Leisure Centre.

One of the Council’s key priorities is to increase access to physically active and healthy lifestyles to achieve better health outcomes and this investment will certainly assist with this aim.

Pete Burt, MD for Inspiring health lifestyles said: ”We are delighted this proposal has been approved and excited to start work enhancing our health and fitness offer at Chase Leisure Centre.

“We’ll consult and communicate with customers and clubs who use the facility at every stage of this development.”

All improvements will be in place by April 2019 and any work will take place around classes to minimise any disruption.
