Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet has approved to spend £94,000 on environmental improvements in Cannock Town Centre.
The improvements will include a comprehensive painting scheme; improving the exterior appearance of the Prince of Wales Theatre; updating display cabinets around the town and a graffiti art scheme on roller shutter doors of empty Council owned buildings.
£1,500 – Updating display cabinets in and around the town centre with new maps and promotional material
£31,000 – Comprehensive painting scheme, primarily in the core town centre, to include welcome signs and all the street furniture
£8,500 –Graffiti Art scheme on roller shutter doors for Council owned empty units
£53,000 – A vinyl wrap to be placed around the front and sides of the Prince of Wales Theatre
All the figures quotes regarding the improvements are currently estimates only.
The Council aim for the town centre improvements to be completed, to co-inside with the opening of McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands, in September 2020 with the exception of the Prince of Wales Theatre, which will take longer to complete due to planning permission and obtaining necessary consents.
Councillor Gordon Alcott, Portfolio Leader for Town Centre Regeneration said “We want to make sure that the existing town centre looks as welcoming as it can, with a predicted growth of 3-4 million visitors per annum, of which some will carry out a dual trip to Cannock town centre.
“Whilst the medium to long term ambition is to redevelop the multi storey car park, the environmental improvements in the short term will give a more pleasing outlook and improve the image of the town centre.”
