Cannock Chase Council has revoked the licence of The Jolly Collier public house in Chadsmoor, following a recent review.

The Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee decided to revoke the Premises Licence with immediate effect at a hearing on 28 March 2023.

The Committee also decided that the interim step of suspension of the licence should continue until such time as the 21 day right of appeal period has expired or, if an appeal is made, until the appeal is abandoned, or determined by the Courts.

The hearing followed an incident of serious violent disorder at the premises in the early hours of Saturday 25 February 2023, leading Staffordshire Police to make an application to Cannock Chase Council for an expedited review of the Premises Licence.

Dean Piper Head of Economic Development and Planning at Cannock Chase Council said “To revoke a Premises Licence in Cannock Chase is unusual.  However, the Licensing Act is there to prevent serious crime and disorder on licensed premises and in this instance the Licensing Committee felt it was necessary to revoke the licence with immediate effect in the interest of public safety.”
