Cannock Chase Council has received more than £98,000 of additional funding from the government for its Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG).

The additional funding will go towards adaptations to private owners/tenants properties in the Cannock Chase District, such as; ramps, stair lifts, bathroom adaptions and extensions to enable disabled people to lead more independent lives.

Councillor John Preece, Portfolio Leader for Environment said “We are delighted to receive this additional government funding, which will enable us to help residents with disabilities to live independently in their own homes.

“If you have a disability, or live with someone who does, and need to make adaptations to your home then you might be eligible to a grant from the Council.

“Please contact Staffordshire Cares on 0300 111 8010 in the first instance and if they think you may need adaptations they will make a referral to the Council.”.

The grant can pay for a range of adaptations including; ramps, stair lifts, through floor lifts, door widening, accessible toilets, accessible kitchen facilities or walk in showers.

The grant is means tested, unless the adaptations are for a child or you receive one of the following benefits in which case it does not apply; income support, income based job seekers allowance, Income related ESA, guaranteed pension credit, housing benefit, working or child tax credit where the income is less than £15,050.

The maximum grant you can normally receive is £30,000.00.
