Recycling at least one extra bottle a week per person = saving 46 million in Staffordshire in a year!

Now’s the time to do something small to make a big difference to plastic waste in Staffordshire.

Did you know that Staffordshire residents throw out 4 in every 10 plastic bottles? That’s enough to fill 16 Olympic-sized swimming pools every year!

We all know that throwing away single use plastics is terrible for the environment, and that we should be reusing our plastic bottles.  But with so much of our consumables coming in plastic bottles, we all need to recycle more now.

Recycling our plastic bottles is an excellent way to reduce waste and stop using the earth’s raw materials.

Many people are confused about what plastic bottles can and cannot be recycled, because there are many myths, and the packaging can be confusing.

Our challenge is simple for each of us and ambitious when you think about the impact we’ll make - if every person in Staffordshire recycled at least one extra plastic bottle a week in their home recycling bin, together we could save 46 million bottles from waste in a year. That’s 9 Olympic sized swimming pools!

Top tips for recycling at least one extra plastic bottle a week:

  • Any coloured bottles (except black) can be recycled in your home recycling bin.
  • It doesn't need to be clean, it just needs to be empty - but a quick rinse helps.
  • All the lids can be recycled too!
