Cannock Chase Council thanks residents in the District for reducing contamination in the blue bin following a successful contamination campaign.
The contamination campaign launched in Cannock Chase in August 2016 and was aimed at informing residents as well as reducing contamination in the blue bin.
The campaign focused on the key items which were often found to contaminate the blue bin.
These were: nappies, textiles/clothes, animal bedding, food waste, full plastic bags and DIY material. However since August 2016 there have been no rejected loads of dry recycling and that’s thanks to the residents of Cannock Chase for recycling their waste correctly.
Over the past few weeks the Council have been analysing the quality of residents recycling in the blue bin, in addition to checking the green bin for any waste that could have been recycled.
Although some dry recycling was found in the green bin, this seems to be due to lack of capacity in the blue bin. Residents are reminded that extra capacity blue bins are available from the Council, subject to checks that all three bins are being utilised correctly.
Mike Edmonds, Head of Environment and Healthy Lifestyles said “We are delighted that the contamination levels have reduced within the District and that’s thanks to the residents in Cannock Chase.
We know recycling can be confusing and we would remind everyone that there is a search facility on the website which can be used if you are unsure of which item to put in which bin.
