Cannock Chase Council

Feedback from consultation on our 2012/13 Budget

You said, we already do...

As part of the budget setting process for 2012/13, Cannock Chase Council held a public consultation exercise during December and January to ask residents their views on the items put forward by Cabinet for potential growth, alongside public opinion regarding the future aims of the Council.

The budget consultation process was conducted using a range of channels for public involvement to ensure that as many local people as possible could give their views on the proposals. As part of this process, an online survey was created and linked from the webpage hosting the video of the Leader's announcement of the Council's budget announcement.

Paper copies of the survey were made available at Council sites and other locations including GP surgeries, libraries, churches, charities and voluntary groups; and Council officers also asked local people for their views at community events throughout the consultation period, alongside the use of a range of social media communications including Twitter and SMS messaging.

We've had a great response from the public, and the rankings and preferences indicated by the respondents have been included in the Cabinet's considerations when recommending the Budget to Council.

Many residents, however, not only identified their favoured options for growth and priorities for the future, but also took the opportunity to give us their suggestions for the types of services we should be providing.

This was a really positive outcome of the consultation and gives us extra indications of the services, projects and facilities valued by the public.

These responses also highlighted that some residents were not aware of some of the great things the Council and its partners already do. This is detailed in the document 'Feedback on consultation on our 2012/13 Budget'. This document highlights some of the services and improvements already underway in the District.

Cannock Chase Council is committed to achieving its vision that "by 2021 Cannock Chase will be a place where people have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life and achieve economic prosperity", and I trust that this document gives a summary of the many ways in which the Council is making a real difference to our communities.
