Winter Service Disruptions

Last Updated: Thursday 9th December, 10am

Working for you during the snow

We're working hard to ensure that our services can be delivered during the current winter weather. Information on our services is below, and you can also follow us on Twitter for updates.

Museum of Cannock Chase, Valley Road, Hednesford

The Museum of Cannock Chase is open again today (Thursday 9th December) after it was forced to close on Wednesday because of burst water pipes. Everything is open at the museum today except the coffee shop.

The burst happened at around 11.30am on Wednesday morning and museum employees responded to the problem immediately. Electricians and plumbers, as well as museum employees and firefighters, worked through the afternoon and early evening to clear out the water.

The museum's historical documents, photographs and records were moved to a safe, dry area as soon as the flooding was discovered and there has been no damage to the permanent displays and collections.

Housing repairs

Cannock Chase Council's housing repair team are currently dealing with a large number of emergency call-outs, mainly due to burst water pipes due to the freezing conditions.

On Tuesday 7th December, around 50 incidents of burst water pipes were fixed by our teams.

We have had to put back some lower-priority repairs. If you are affected, we will call you directly to book another appointment.

Recycling and waste collections

Our crews are out today collecting wheelie bins. With temperatures at a giddy 2C, most roads are accessible and we're managing to keep on top of the collection schedule.

Council Tax home visits

We are reviewing our home visits each day to assess new Council Tax claims and changes of circumstance. If we have to cancel your appointment we will let you know directly. If your appointment is cancelled, this will not affect your entitlement to benefit. The effective date of a claim is the date the appointment was made, not when we actually get to see you.

Help for homeless people

Due to the prolonged severe weather Cannock Chase Council can assist with access to shelter. No-one needs to sleep rough during the coldest weather. Call the Housing Options Team for advice and assistance on 01543 462621.

Gritting

Staffordshire County Council is responsible for the gritting of highways and footpaths. You can receive regular updates on the county council's Twitter feed and on their website.

Council offices

All Council offices at the Civic Centre in Cannock and area offices in Hednesford and Rugeley are open as normal.

Leisure centres

Chase Leisure Centre in Cannock and Rugeley Leisure are both open as normal.

Help for the elderly and vulnerable
