Workplace Health & Safety

The Council is responsible for enforcing workplace health and safety legislation in all commercial premises within the Cannock Chase District, including retail outlets, restaurants, pubs, clubs, offices, warehouses, and premises offering leisure / consumer services (e.g. health clubs, tyre and exhaust fitters, hair and beauty salons, tattooists etc.).

Health and safety enforcement on construction sites and in manufacturing premises is carried out by the Health and Safety Executive The Food and Safety Team carries out planned inspections of businesses at regular intervals. Attention is focussed on the areas of highest risk, such as slips and trips, falls from height, vehicle movements, workplace transport and manual handling. The team also deals with complaints about dangerous or poor working conditions and investigates workplace accidents.

In addition to enforcement work the team is also able to provide advice and support for employers.
