LicensingThe Licensing Unit aims to reassure and protect the public through consistent and proportionate enforcement of licence conditions relating to licences applying to persons, premises and vehicles in respect of ;

  • Licensing Act 2003
  • Gambling Act 2005
  • Hackney Carriage/Private Hire Vehicles
  • Hackney Carriage /Private Hire Drivers
  • Street Collections
  • Other Polices as approved and adopted, such as Street trading and Sex Establishments


The above encompasses

  • Administering applications for the grant and renewal of all licences, permits and registrations issued by the Council as Licensing Authority.
  • Investigating complaints from members of the public, internal departments and external agencies and taking appropriate action in accordance with the Enforcement Concordat.
  • Inspecting licensed premises, vehicles and persons routinely on a proactive basis, including late at night and at weekends to ensure compliance with conditions.
