Research Facilities

Are you researching your local history?

The museum has a research library holding books, photographs and archival records pertinent to the Cannock Chase area. Particular emphasis is placed upon coal mining. We have a collection of local history files containing information and documents that are available for consultation.

These facilities are available, by appointment only, to anyone wishing to carry out research.  Appointments and enquiries can be dealt with by the Collections Officer on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. As the Collections Officer works part time, all appointments must be made in advance so that the items you wish to look at can be brought out ready for you.

Because museum resources are limited, we ask anyone using our research facilities to make a donation to our funds in order to support our work.

Any photographs and documents supplied for publications may incur an administration charge.

If you are unable to visit the museum, we can often send information to you in the post or by email for a small charge.

Objects may be brought to the museum for identification by the curatorial staff by appointment. Valuations, however, are not available.

For further details, or to make an appointment, please telephone the Collections Officer on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday mornings, or email museum@cannockchasedc.gov.uk
