Cannock Chase Council

Waste Collection Commitment

Local authorities have a statutory duty to provide residents with a waste collection service, including the collection of materials for recycling.

In recent years government targets as well as the serious need to divert sending biodegradable and recyclable waste to landfill has meant that the role that Councils play in providing residents with a clear and easy to follow waste collection service is even more important.

The Waste Collection Commitment aims to clearly set out, through a number of general principles, the standard of service that every household in England should expect from their Local Authority. The commitment is run by the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) which is funded by the government.

So far there are over 100 Local Authorities in England to sign up to the commitment and we are the fourth Council in Staffordshire to sign up, proving that we always aim to be the best at whatever service we can offer you as residents.

The Waste Collection Commitment

We are committed to providing waste and recycling services which are good value for money and which meet the needs of our residents.

This means we will:

1)     Explain clearly what services you can expect to receive;

2)     Provide regular collections;

3)     Provide a reliable collection service;

4)     Consider any special requests that individual households may have;

5)     Design our services and carry out our collections in a way that doesn't produce litter;

6)     Collect as many materials for recycling as we can and explain to you what happens to them;

7)     Explain clearly what our service rules are and the reasons for them;

8)     Tell you in good time if we have to make changes to your services, even temporarily;

9)     Respond to complaints we receive about our services; and

10)  Tell all our residents about this commitment to collecting waste.

A copy of this commitment can be found in all of our area offices, as well as Cannock and Rugeley Leisure Centres and the Waste Services reception at the depot, Hawks Green.

Further monitoring of each principle will be carried out to ensure that we are always carrying out the principles to the best of our abilities.
