Homelessness
Homeless Interview
If you are at risk of homelessness within the next 28 days, we will arrange for you to meet a Housing Options (Homeless) Officer.
We aim for this appointment to be within 5 working days of you telling us that you may become homeless. If you have nowhere at all to stay we will see you the same day.
At the interview?
The aim of the homelessness interview is to assess whether we have a legal responsibility to provide you with accommodation. It gives us the opportunity to provide you with advice about your rights and assistance with finding a place to live.
The interview is a chance for you to ask questions about your application, and usually lasts 30-45 minutes.
Temporary accommodation?
In certain circumstances, we may help you with temporary accommodation while a decision is made on your application.
We will always try to keep you within accommodation in the District and will avoid Bed & Breakfast accommodation wherever possible.
When a decision is made?
We aim to make a decision about your application within 33 working days of your interview. Once the decision is made, a letter will be sent to you within 3 days to inform you of the outcome.
If I disagree with the decision?
You have the right to an appeal about the decision we make. More information about Your Right to Appeal will be included in your letter which you should receive with your decision. The reviewing officer will have up to 56 working days to review your case.
