Guidance on Noise Reduction

Noise at home can affect the quality of life of all of us. According to research, about half of people in England hear noise from their neighbours. For about one in five, noise can be a problem, and around half of those who hear noise are annoyed by it. However, many do not realise that there are simple, practical solutions to most domestic noise problems.

The new NSCA guide http://www.quieterhomes.org, published today with the support of Defra, takes residents through the common sources of every day noise and the simple practical steps that can be taken to abate them.

"The launch of quieterhomes.org is timely," said Philip Mulligan, Acting Chief Executive of NSCA "We anticipate the publication of a draft strategy for noise management in England early next year. However, while strategic policy on noise is needed to support the management of nuisance noise, research by NSCA has shown that more consideration in when and where we carry out noisy domestic activities can do much to reduce the impact of noise at home."
