Flashmob is captured in town centres
Published on Monday 19th December 2011
Night-time revellers in Cannock and Rugeley were pleasantly surprised by the appearance of a flashmob this weekend.
Members of Chase Harmony were commissioned to help Cannock Chase Council with its alcohol-related violence campaign. The group performed three Christmas carols in each town centre to help calm revellers down, prevent incidents of violence and lift the Christmas spirit.
Once members had performed they then dispersed leaving partners including Staffordshire Police, Council staff and firefighters from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service to hand out candy canes and wish all a happy and safe Christmas.
The Flashmob was part of the 'It's Never OK' campaign which was launched on Friday 16 December. The campaign has two main themes including: Violent Night – encouraging night-time revellers not to get involved in violence whilst under the influence of alcohol and Season’s Beatings – preventing incidents of domestic violence by challenging the behaviour of the perpetrator and encouraging victims to report abuse.
The campaign is being funded by Chase Community Safety Partnership and will be developed further for other seasonal campaigns.
Cllr George Adamson , Leader of Cannock Chase Council, said: "The flashmob concept is an innovative approach in helping to address alcohol-related violence. The performances by Chase Harmony were superb and everyone really enjoyed them.
"Each performance had a positive impact and night-revellers responded well. I would personally like to thank Chase Harmony for their support with this campaign."
John Nicholls, Musical Director of Chase Harmony, said: "Chase Harmony was pleased to add their support to the campaign. The flashmobs were a great idea and helped to show a different side to the Christmas spirit. We hope that the campaign will be a huge success."
Some footage of the flashmob was captured on camera and is available to view on YouTube:
