Cannock Chase Council

New Profiles Health and Fitness Centre on the way

Published on Wednesday 18th January 2012

Chase Leisure Centre will be closed for four days in early February to allow the installation of brand new health and fitness centre called “Profiles”.

The leisure centre in Cannock has been undergoing a major transformation over the last few months to deliver modern, top-class facilities for residents. The Profiles Health and Fitness Centre will be the first of many new and improved facilities at the leisure centre over the next few months.

To enable the new health and fitness equipment to be installed, as well as a new reception and golf area to be completed, the leisure centre will be closed to the public on 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th February. Cannock Park Golf Course will be closed on 3rd February only.

The sports hall at Chase Leisure Centre will be closed from 3rd February to 16th March. All Motiv8 classes will be held and relocated within the centre. Customers are asked to use the golf course reception when attending classes between these dates.

Profiles Health and Fitness Centre, with its own dedicated changing area, will open to the public on Saturday 11th February. The health and fitness equipment will cater for all customers, from those new to exercising to the more accomplished user. With views over the golf course and park, the new state of the art Technogym Wellness equipment includes iPod docking stations and integrated TV screens along with Powerplates, core and stability equipment and free weights. There really will be something for everyone.

The hi-tech health and fitness equipment has been funded by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT), the charitable trust that will be managing all of the Council's Leisure and Culture services. The new partnership will deliver over £2 million of investment in services over the 10-year contract, with the new fitness equipment being the first stage of this investment.

Cllr Christine Mitchell, Cannock Chase Council Culture and Sport Leader, said: "Work started on the modernisation of Chase Leisure Centre in April 2011 and, apart from the swimming pool, we've been able to keep all facilities running as usual during the construction. Unfortunately, the centre does have to be closed for a few days so that the new reception area and health and fitness equipment can be installed.

"Helping people to enjoy active and healthy lifestyles is a priority for the Council and we're looking forward to working with WLCT to achieve this. Profiles is the first stage of the extra investment this exciting new partnership can deliver for the people of Cannock Chase."

Stuart Murray, chief executive of WLCT, said: "We're delighted to be working with the Council in delivering and enhancing leisure and cultural opportunities for the people of Cannock Chase. This new Profiles Health and Fitness Centre is an exciting start to this new partnership."

As well as the new Profiles Health and Fitness Centre, a new 25m competition swimming pool, modern changing village, Motiv8 studio and new spectator gallery will be delivered over the next few months.
