Fancy a knockout challenge?

Published on Monday 30th July 2012

People who are up for a challenge with a difference can take part in special It’s A Knockout games in Cannock Park on 19th August as part of Party In The Park.

It's A Knockout is a big part of the Party In The Park event, the grand finale to the Chase Community Games programme inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The It's A Knockout competition - which is free to enter - is being held between 1.30pm and 5pm, with individual and team challenges including the rubber duck dash, barrow burnout, skippy dipping, minute mash-up and lots more.

There will be challenges for children between 5 and 15, 16 and over, and also for teams of four. The best fancy dressed team will also win a special prize.

The It's a Knockout competition is being delivered by Boot Camp One - CrossFit style, which works to transform people's perception of fitness and in turn create lasting legacy changes.

To take part in the competition, call Simon Davies on 01543 464379 or log on to www.cannockchasedc.gov.uk/knockout

Cllr Christine Mitchell, Cannock Chase Council Culture and Sport Leader, said: "The It's A Knockout challenges will be one of the highlights of Party In The Park, so we need lots of Cannock Chase people to get involved. Just a warning, though: a towel and a change of clothes will definitely be required for those taking part!"

Party In The Park is being delivered by Cannock Chase Council and leisure and culture partner WLCT and has been funded by the Chase Community Partnership.

Mike Worsnop, WLCT's Head of Service for Leisure and Wellbeing in Cannock Chase, said: "This is going to be a lot of fun but it will also be a genuine test of people's fitness. We'd encourage everyone to sign up for a truly memorable event."

Party In The Park takes place between 11am and 7pm and is the grand finale to the Chase Community Games programme that has been running for the last few months across the District. It will showcase the vital work of local community groups and sports clubs - with taster sessions on offer - and there will be a packed programme of entertainment.

As well as It's A Knockout there will be live music, Punch and Judy, a Big Teddy Bears' Picnic, arts and crafts, circus skills, a bouncy castle and slide and Music and Movement sessions with Jo Jingles. Visitors will also be able to try out Zumba, street dance, salsa and more at special give-it-a-go dance sessions.

Peformers on the day include local bands The Shine and Taking Hayley, Chase Day Service, Chase Choral Society and Cannock Highland Pipe Band.
