Step to it at Party in the Park
Published on Tuesday 7th August 2012
Party In The Park will start as it means to go on in Cannock Park on 19th August with a Dance Fest to get everyone moving and into the spirit of the Olympics.
The free event starts at 11am and from 11.30am there will be have-a-go dance sessions featuring everything from disco, street dance, salsa and zumba. Professional instructors will be leading the sessions until 1pm.
Dance Fest is part of WLCT's Doorstep Dance initiative that aims to get people active through dance.
The whole event - which is being delivered by Cannock Chase Council and leisure and culture partner WLCT - has been inspired by the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, so there will be lots of opportunities to take part in fun physical activity.
Party In The Park takes place between 11am and 7pm and is the grand finale to the Chase Community Games programme that has been running for the last few months across the District. It will showcase the vital work of local community groups and sports clubs - with lots of taster sessions on offer - and there will be a packed programme of entertainment.
As well as the Dance Fest and an It's A Knockout competition there will be live music, Punch and Judy, a Big Teddy Bears' Picnic, arts and crafts, circus skills, a bouncy castle and slide and Music and Movement sessions with Jo Jingles.
Peformers on the day include local bands The Shine and Taking Hayley, Chase Day Service, Chase Choral Society and Cannock Highland Pipe Band.
A free shuttle bus service will be running on the day to make sure that as many people as possible can join in with the fun.

Cllr Christine Mitchell, Cannock Chase Council Culture and Sport Leader, said: "We want as many people as possible to join in the fun at Party In The Park so we hope the free shuttle buses will encourage residents to head to the park. The event is taking place in Cannock Park but it's for the whole District to enjoy. As well as the Dance Fest there is so much going on. It's going to be a brilliant day."
If it rains on the day, all activities will be held in Chase Leisure Centre. See http://www.cannockchasedc.gov.uk/partyinpark for lots more information in the build-up to the big day.
