Reminder on waste and recycling collections

Published on Monday 21st December 2009

Cannock Chase Council has urged residents to check their waste and recycling collection calendars to make sure bins and boxes are put out on the correct days over Christmas and New Year.

All normal collection days have changed.

All households in the District received a collection calendar earlier in the year which includes the specific arrangements for the festive period. They are also available by clicking here.

The Council has also reminded residents of its free email reminder system for waste and recycling collections. By registering their details at, residents can receive weekly emails telling them which particular bins and boxes to put out - and even what should go in them.

The service keeps track of changes to collections automatically - especially useful when collections change because of bank holidays such as Christmas and Easter.

Cllr Tony Williams, Cannock Chase Council Environmental Sustainability Leader, said: "We all have so much extra waste and recycling over the festive period, so it's really important not to miss a collection. I urge residents to check their collection calendars and to maybe make a new year's resolution to sign up to the Green Box Day reminder service!"

After the festive period, real Christmas trees can be broken up and placed in the brown wheelie bin.

Christmas cards and wrapping paper can also be put out with normal recycling collections - residents should ensure that tinsel, sticky tape and staples are removed. If there is too much to fit in the recycling box, residents can use carrier bags or clear bags (not black bin bags) and place them next to the blue box.
