Cannock Chase Council’s and Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles’ health and wellbeing app Cannock Chase Can has been shortlisted in the Innovation category in the LGC Awards 2023. The LGC was formerly known as the Local Government Chronicle.

It comes just over a year since the mobile phone app was launched with a mission to support residents, through challenges and helpful advice, to improve their wellbeing.  

Help with energy bills for low income households

Cannock Chase Council has recently approved and adopted a framework to help reduce fuel poverty and carbon emissions in the District. As part of this approval it has published a new Statement of Intent on its website.

Householders can apply for help from the energy company obligation flexibility scheme (ECO4 Flex) if their total income is below £31,000 per year, and their home is hard to heat or they  are vulnerable to cold. 

Statement on future of Museum of Cannock Chase

Cannock Chase Council is considering the future of the Museum of Cannock Chase located in Hednesford. The museum is managed for the Council by its leisure partner, Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles (IHL).

The plan is to relocate the museum to new premises for the following reasons:

Last week Cannock Chase Council, Forest Hills Primary School and John Bamford Primary School, took part in the Sakura Cherry Tree Project, with the planting of 16 trees on green space off Joseph Dix Drive in Rugeley.

In attendance was Cannock Chase MP,  Amanda Milling,  who secured the trees when she served as Minister for Asia at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

Cannock Chase Council has joined forces again with Staffordshire Police and New Era Domestic Abuse Service for Staffordshire to raise awareness of domestic abuse.  

Cannock Chase residents need photo ID to vote at May elections

For the first time, residents in Cannock Chase will need to show photographic ID to vote at this year’s local elections. 



Residents are being urged to make sure they are ready to vote in May by checking they have an accepted form of photo ID. 


Consultation on proposed replacement of Smoke Control Order

Cannock Chase Council is considering some changes to its smoke control orders and is seeking the views of the public on the proposed changes.

Between 1988 and 1996, the Council made fifteen smoke control orders, which in turn create smoke control areas, covering the majority of the District.

Old school site to be redeveloped into affordable housing

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet have approved a redevelopment scheme at the former Aelfgar School site in Rugeley.

The site, including Taylor’s Lane car park, will be redeveloped into 58 houses.  Of the 58 houses built, 29 of them will be built to Future Homes Standards and available to rent from the Council.

Council homes for rent would comprise of; 17 x 2-bedroom houses, 10 x 3-bedroom houses and 2x 4-bedroom houses.

Cabinet agrees to investment in play area

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet have agreed to improvements to the Barnard Way play area in Cannock.

The costs to deliver the improvements will be met from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funds from the Cannock East ward of £88,000.
