Building Control
The Building Control Section consists of 7 professional officers who
deal with Building Regulation matters. One officer is designated as the
Access Officer and has special responsibilities for dealing with access
issues. The District is also split into two geographical areas for ease
of working. The Building Control Surveyors check plans and carry out site inspections to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations 2000, for building works to both PRIVATE and COUNCIL owned properties. The Team also act as consultants on various construction matters and, where necessary, take enforcement action against persons who fail to comply with the Regulations.
As well as the Building Regulations, our surveyors also:
- control demolition of buildings and structures
- take action on dangerous structures and buildings (including 24-hour callout)
- are members of the Staffordshire County Council Safety at Sport Grounds Team
- are providers of disabled access surveys and advise on Council properties and to the Cannock and District Access Group
- act as consultees on Licensing applications regarding means of escape in case of fire
