From past to present

From Kings to coal miners, Cannock Chase District has witnessed a range of events and people for hundreds of years. In the reign of Henry VIII the forest of Cannock Chase was predominantly oak trees frequented by the king and gentry for hunting.

With the onset of the industrial revolution Cannock Chase District found itself developing a thriving coal mining industry. At one stage there were 53 coal mines in the area, transporting coal via a strong transport network of roads, rail and canals.
