 About the Countryside Service

The natural environment of Cannock Chase District is well known for its diversity and beauty. The district has many places of statutory importance, including two top European designated sites (Special Areas of Conservation), 3 Sites of Special Scientific Interest, many Local Nature Reserves, sites of protected or endangered species and sites of biological importance as well as the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Green Belt.

Working at the heart of this environment is Cannock Chase Council's Countryside Service. Conserving the district's rare wildlife and habitats. Managing valuable open spaces for local people to enjoy. Sharing knowledge and skills to help people better appreciate and enjoy the district's natural environment.

How to get involved in the countryside in and around Cannock Chase.

There is a group of conservation volunteers that meets most Fridays to carry out practical habitat management work at countryside sites around the district. The volunteer programme includes a variety of tasks suitable for all ages and abilities and they're all free!
