Volunteering with the Countryside Service
Cannock Chase District Council Countryside Service runs a volunteer conservation group on Fridays.
A wide range of volunteering opportunities are available to community groups and individuals, working on a wide range of conservation activities.
The Friday Volunteer Group Work Programme
No experience is necessary, as training on all activities is provided by experienced professionals.
Members of the volunteer group are able to work to their own pace and ability.
Activities include;
heathland management (helping maintain one of our rarer internationally important habitats),
grassland management
and other habitat management activities.
Volunteering is a fun and worthwhile way of giving something back to the planet and helps contribute to maintaining the biodiversity of our local area, working and contributing to the implementation of the Staffordshire Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP).
Volunteering is also a good way of meeting like-minded people, keeping fit, learning new skills and enjoying your local environment.
During 2008 four of the countryside services regular volunteers gained employment in the countryside sector.
