The popular Slipper Swop Shop will be held again across the district, following on from the very successful inaugural event held in 2006.

The popular Slipper Swop Shop will be held again across the district, following on from the very successful inaugural event held in 2006 where 400 pairs of slippers were given away free. The aim of the Slipper Swop Shop is to reduce the number of falls by elderly people, often caused by ill fitting or worn out slippers.

Chase Community Partnership will be holding four Slipper Swop Shops across the district during November. If you are over 60 and live in the Cannock Chase area pop along to a Swop Shop with your old slippers and exchange them for a brand new pair for FREE.

Besides a new pair of slippers on offer, and the chance for a cup of tea or coffee, there will be a wide range of information available on Council Tax and Housing Benefits, Pensions, Community Safety, Social Care and Health and much more.

Residents may find they gain more than a pair of new slippers, as they could be entitled to extra benefits like Pension Credit and Winter Fuel Allowance if they visit the Local Pensions Service representatives.

The Chase Community Partnership is made up of a range of partners and services, which will be on hand to give advice and help on a range of issues. These include Cannock Chase Council, Staffordshire Fire & Rescue, and Chase Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), Staffordshire Police and the PCT.

Cllr. Neil Stanley, Leader of Cannock Chase Council and Chair of the Local Strategic Partnership said "the Local Strategic Partnership is all about working together across the district, offering services to the benefit of residents. What better way to show case partnership working than with the popular Slipper Swop Shop, where the elderly can get a FREE pair of slippers, a range of advice and help that could improve their lives, they may even find they are entitled to more money than they realised. In today's climate that has got to be a bonus, with rising fuel and household costs that have a huge impact on the elderly".

Chase Council for Voluntary Service (Chase CVS) will be supporting the Slipper Swop Shops and they deal with many issues concerning the district elderly residents. Kent Parson, Chief Officer of the CVS said" we feel this is a vital contribution to reducing the falls and accidents that may be experienced by the elderly and vulnerable throughout the District and we are pleased to be involved with the initiative".

The Slipper Swop Shops will be held on the following dates:

Tuesday 4th November
Rose Theatre, Rugeley - 9am to1pm

Tuesday 11th November
St Lukes Church Hall, Cannock - 9am to1pm

Thursday 20th November

Wednesday 26th November
