Local Plan review
This year, the government is making major changes to the way in which local plans are produced, including the need for councils to review their plans every five years to see which policies may need updating.
Last year we consulted on Local Plan Part 2 (issues and options) and received a really good response: huge thanks to everyone who took the time to write in to us. We have been working through all of the comments and considering the issues raised: these were reported to Cabinet in August 2017. The Consultation information and summary of comments received can be read below under the Local Plan (Part 2) menu.
As a consequence of the changes to the national planning system however, some parts of Local Plan Part 1 (for which Part 2 delivers the fine detail) will soon be out of date. Local Plan Part 1 was adopted in 2014 and, as a result of the new regulations we will need to decide very soon which parts of the plan will need to be updated. Rather than pressing ahead with Part 2 therefore, we are starting the production of a new Local Plan which will utilise the work to be carried out to date on Local Plan Parts 1 and 2 and incorporate any areas which need reviewing and updating.
Once we have drafted the relevant documents we will be running a series of consultation events, taking into account the feedback we received last time and using the information which everyone put to us previously. We aim to run these in the summertime and will write to everyone again to let you know times and venues and will update the website with this information. We have made no decisions about which sites should be allocated for development and there is plenty of chance to get involved and contribute to the debate as we start work on the new plan. We should also point out that until it is replaced, the adopted Local Plan Part 1 will still continue to set planning policy for the District. Please refer to the news page for updates.
The Cannock Chase Local Plan is the statutory development plan for Cannock Chase Council and forms the principal basis for which development is promoted and controlled.
- The Local Plan (Part 1) 2014 was adopted on Wednesday 11th June 2014. It contains the Core Strategy and the Rugeley Town Centre Area Action Plan.
- Local Plan (Part 2) work has been incoporated into the Local Plan Review process. This includes work on Site Allocations, planning standards and further policies.
In addition the Cannock and Rugeley Town Centre Area Action Plans provide further policy context for the largest town centres in the District.
