What is the Chase Heritage Trail all about?
Cannock Chase is rich in local history and we believe it is very important that we preserve the area's heritage for future generations.
Our ancestors played a vital role in bringing us to where we are today and we need to make sure that our past is not just remembered but also celebrated.
To bring our past alive and also to attract visitors to the area, we are currently working on plans for a new community project.
The Chase Heritage Trail project will not only create a trail taking in historic landmarks and local beauty spots but also enhance the existing Museum of Cannock Chase for anyone to enjoy.
The Chase Heritage Trail will run from Cannock to Rugeley passing through or close to, historic sites that may have previously been difficult to access.
It will offer walks and off-road cycling tracks and will hopefully encourage people to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
The project also includes plans to extend and refurbish the Museum of Cannock Chase with a new local history gallery, enlarged reception area and touch-screen information points.
The project is to be supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Staffordshire Environmental Fund.
