Local community groups, organisations and businesses are being encouraged to develop challenges that will feature on the Council’s new Cannock Chase Can App.

Cannock Chase Council in partnership with Inspiring healthy lifestyles (IHL) has been working closely with local partner organisations and community groups over the last few months to develop the Cannock Chase Can programme.

Cannock Chase Can will launch across the District later this summer with the aim of helping people improve their lives by making healthier lifestyle choices. The new Cannock Chase Can mobile app will enable residents to sign up and create personal profiles including personal goals, healthy weight and individual wellness journeys.

The Council is now calling on individuals, local community groups, businesses and organisations to get involved and submit a challenge. These will feature within the app for users to complete and progress on their wellness wheel.

Challenges can be submitted in various formats including video, audio, step-by-step instructions and a web link. An online submission form with guidance packs is available to download from the Council’s website.

Councillor Valerie Jones, Leader for Community Engagement, Health and Wellbeing said: “The Council is committed to improving the health of local residents and supporting the Government’s wider agenda on obesity. Cannock Chase Can aims to give people as many tools as possible to use in supporting a happier and healthier lifestyle.

“The new app will provide information about healthy eating, physical activity, budgeting and advice about how to make healthier lifestyle choices. It will host a variety of wellness challenges which can be undertaken as an individual, group or family.

“Challenges can be absolutely anything as long as they benefit an individual’s health and wellbeing. They can range from step by step instructions to making Grandma’s super soup to a calming audio of bird song from Cannock Chase to a video showcasing outdoor football tricks filmed in Cannock Park. The more engaging, fun and imaginative they are, the better.

“This exciting programme will launch later this summer and the app will be available to download for free from Google Play and the App Store.

Chris Derbyshire, Deputy Manging Director at Inspiring healthy lifestyles, said: “This is a ground breaking and exciting initiative. The residents of Cannock Chase can really make a difference by sharing the ways they build healthy activities into their daily lives. By submitting fun challenges with motivational messages, it will truly benefit all those who use this new innovation.”

In addition to the app, the programme will also include education projects with local schools as well as customised initiatives with local businesses.
