The Council's Cabinet have approved the contribution of over £15k of section 106 monies for an art installation at the Cema in Norton Canes.
The art installation will be incorporated into the current development to the play area and open space at Penny Cress Green, Norton Canes, also known as the Cema.
The funding totalling £15,088.45 has been allocated from the Councils S106 fund from work at Sainsburys Supermarket, situated at the Orbital Retail Centre, Voyager Drive, which stated could be used “for the built environment, arts and public realm improvements.”
In addition to the Section 106 monies, the Forest of Mercia have identified funding to the value of £12,000 to contribute to this project. These funds are from Central Government to tackle Climate Pollution by planting native trees and shrubs around the Country.
Councillor Adrienne Fitzgerald, Portfolio Leader for Housing, Heritage & Leisure said “I am delighted that the funding has been allocated for the art installation at the Cema. This project links perfectly with our corporate priority to maintain and improve our green spaces and supporting health and wellbeing.
“I am pleased that we’re consulting with residents as to what the piece of art will be. This will give residents additional pride in the area. The art installation, which is due to start soon, will also enhance the work on the new play area. This is a wonderful project that will give a lift to Norton Canes.”
The sculpture will depict local historical landscapes of significance and be designed in consultation with the Parish Council, Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles (IHL), Planet Arts, and residents of all ages.
These facilities will provide the opportunity to increase participation levels in sport and recreation and promote healthy and active lifestyles across the local and wider community.
