Cannock Chase Can will launch across the District this summer to help people improve their lives by making healthy lifestyle choices.

The Council is working closely with the Community Wellbeing team at Inspiring healthy lifestyles (IHL) and other partners to launch this exciting new programme which will focus local efforts on supporting the Government’s Child Obesity Action Plan. It will help address poor health and obesity by changing behaviour and attitudes towards better lifestyle options.

The focal point for the programme will be the new Cannock Chase Can mobile app which will enable residents to sign up and create personal profiles including target weight, personal goals, and individual wellness journeys.

It will also provide information about healthy eating, physical activity, and advice about how to make healthier lifestyle choices. It will host a variety of wellness challenges which can be undertaken as an individual, group or family.

Over the next couple of months, the Council and IHL will be working with local community groups, businesses, and schools to design the challenges which will feature within the app.

In addition to the app, the programme will also include education projects with local schools as well as customised initiatives with local businesses. An advertising campaign will also launch in the next month promoting this new District-wide health improvement programme.

Dean Piper, Head of Economic Prosperity at Cannock Chase Council, said: “The Council is committed to improving the health of its local residents and supporting the Government’s wider agenda on obesity. Cannock Chase Can will encourage people to make healthier choices as well as offering support in addressing a range of factors affecting individuals’ wellbeing.

“This exciting programme will launch this summer and will be available to download for free from Google Play and the App Store.

“Once registered, users will be able to assess their individual wellbeing, track their weight journey and participate in a range of challenges with the bonus of gaining rewards along the way. The overall goal is for each user to be better equipped to make healthier lifestyle choices.”

Chris Derbyshire, Deputy Manging Director at Inspiring healthy lifestyles, said: “This is a really exciting project recognising the importance of wellbeing and provides support in a new and innovative way. We hope the approach of involving the community in its creation will make it more accessible and meaningful. This in turn will help people make better lifestyle choices which work for them.”
