Residents living in Norton Canes are being asked for their views on the design of the new play area at The Cema – Chapel Street Park in Norton Canes.
Cannock Chase Council has appointed Kompan to undertake the works to the play area and a proposed design has been developed. This proposal incorporates the views and suggestions of residents from the first round of consultation which was undertaken in November 2020.
The proposal will be presented to the local community and schools over the next few weeks to see what people think of the proposed new play area and its equipment.
The feedback survey launches this week and will run until 19 July. A short survey will be available to complete online via the Council’s website. Hard copies are also available and can be collected from the Parish Council office.
Over the last few months, improvement works have been carried out on site including a new circular pathway and the installation of a green gym will start week commencing 19 July.
Plans are also underway to develop art pieces that will be positioned around the park and a further consultation and engagement programme for this will be launched over the Summer.
This project was approved in December 2019 when Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet approved the spending of £120,000 to improve the play area and open space on the Cema site. The money has been allocated from Section 106 funds collected from housing developments in Norton Canes.
Councillor Adrienne Fitzgerald, Leader for Housing, Heritage & Leisure said, “The Council is committed to providing good quality parks, play areas and open spaces and it’s great to see the improvements taking shape at the Cema.
“The design proposal reflects the mining history of the local area as well as providing fun and engaging equipment for children to use and experience.
“We continue to work closely with the local Parish Council to ensure the new park and play area is fit for purpose and meets the needs of the local community.
“If you live in Norton Canes and use or visit the current play area and park, please complete the short survey and tell us what you think of the design proposal. Your feedback and suggestions will form part of the overall design”.
