Cannock Chase Council has announced the reopening of its tennis courts following refurbishment.

A total of 13 courts across Cannock Park, Hednesford Park, Ravenhill Park and Heath Hayes Park have undergone various improvements to ensure tennis courts are of a high quality for local players. The introduction of an electric gate access system means that players can now find and book a court with assurance it will be available when they arrive to play.

Work is underway in Cannock to create a new £6 million nursing home for adults living with complex needs. 

The home will create around 100 new healthcare jobs and will be owned and operated by leading national health care provider Exemplar Health Care.

The first residents are expected to move into the new nursing home in early 2025.

Midlands-based Deeley Construction has been appointed to complete the development and work has now started on site. 

Council arranges church service to mark Holocaust Memorial Day

Cannock Chase Council, working with St Luke’s Church in Cannock, has arranged a special service at the church in the town centre to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January.

The service will take place the day before, on Friday 26 January, in view of Saturday 27 January coinciding with the sabbath day within the Jewish community.

Cannock Chase Council is reminding residents that its new chargeable garden waste collection service starts this month, with annual subscriptions covering from 1 January to 31 December 2024 at a cost of £38.50 per brown bin.

Residents can sign up at any time, but if they want to have their brown bins collected in January, they will need to sign up by 14 January. However, residents can still sign up at any time throughout the year at the same price.

A popular play area, first installed in 1991, has had a revamp costing £88,000 to bring the equipment and landscaping up to modern standards and to make it fully inclusive.

The play area is in the Cannock East Ward and borders Barnard Way and Cannock Road. Nearby there has been significant house building over the past five years and so councillors from the ward requested that Community Infrastructure Levy Funds, or CIL money, be used to give the existing play area a makeover so young people living nearby have a nice area for playing and meeting their friends.

Pantomime themed story walks across parks

Residents can get into the Christmas spirit with specially themed story walks to compliment the pantomimes taking place across the District this festive period.

Across Cannock, Elmore and Hednesford parks there are 10 story boards themed on the history of pantomimes.  The story walk takes approximately 30 minutes and will run throughout the Christmas period and into the New Year.

Each frame has a QR code which you need to scan. There are 10 to collect to complete the challenges on the Cannock Chase Can App. There is a challenge for each park.

Rugeley company sentenced for health and safety breaches following death of employee

Hawkins Logistics Ltd of Rugeley, have been fined £866,000.00 and £50,597.76 in costs following a tragic incident which resulted in the death of an employee. The fine was imposed at a court hearing yesterday.

On 22 November 2019, Mr Shane Smithyman was working at the logistics yard on Redbrook Lane in Rugeley when the shunter truck he was operating became uncoupled, resulting in him becoming crushed between two vehicles. Shane sadly passed away on 26 November 2019 in hospital as a result of his injuries.
