The Award is only open to young people who are residents of and/or attend a Primary School in the Cannock Chase District Council area.

NOTE for young people in Year 7 and above the Council is developing a further Environmental Citizen’s Award Scheme details of which will be made available on the Council’s website

The nominated young person must be in either School Year 5 or 6 at the time the nomination is made.

There is no closing date for nominations and they may be made at any time

IMPORTANT NOTE

Permission must be obtained from the parents/guardian of the young person before the nomination is made

The nomination must include the full name of the young person, address and school attended.

The full name, address of the person/organisation making the nomination and contact telephone number.. Where this is an organisation, contact details of the appropriate leader/responsible person must be included.

The activity for which the nomination is made must have taken place within the 12 months leading up to the date of the nomination and must

1. Have taken place in the Cannock Chase District Council area, OR/AND?

2. Have been of benefit to the environment, a community or resident(s) of Cannock Chase District Council.

A group/organisation/class may be nominated, if it has been responsible for a relevant activity. In such cases the names of all the participating young people must be provided as individual award certificates will be produced. Only those actually participating in the activity will be eligible for the award.

A detailed description of the work/activity undertaken by the individuals/group must be included with the nomination from – additional sheets may be used if there is insufficient space on the nomination form.

Where the activity involves environmental improvement work the nomination should, if possible, be accompanied by “before and after” photographs Otherwise the detailed description should fully explain the nature of the work carried out and the result achieved following its completion or progress made at the date of the nomination.

The nomination may include testimonies, statements or letters of support from those who have benefitted from the activity carried out by the young person/people.

 Examples of the types of activity for which nominations may be made include, but are not restricted to the following

-Helping with litter picks (whether organised through a group or undertaken individually)

-Helping with environmental improvement work – such as clearing footpaths, woodland etc with organisations/groups

-Environmental volunteering with organisations such as Forestry Commission, RSPB, Wildlife Trust, National Trust or other similar local groups.

PLEASE NOTE – unfortunately, membership of such a group alone would not be sufficient to receive the award.

- Raising a specific environmental crime or anti-social behaviour issue with the relevant authorities and assisting in tackling the problem.

Helping run recycling/re-use schemes at school or through another organisation or agency.

- Helping at organised community events, fetes etc. such as the Council’s “Love your Street/Block” initiatives

- Helping carry out regular environmental work such as gardening for an elderly or vulnerable member of the local community

PLEASE NOTE – unfortunately nominations cannot be accepted from relatives of the young person/people except in circumstances where the relative is the class teacher, voluntary group leader, etc. of the young person. Similarly, work done for a family relative would not qualify for the award.

This new initiative aims to increase assurance amongst the residents living in Cannock Chase District, address environmental issues and improve the perceptions in relation to crime and anti-social behaviour.

By working together, we can make a difference!

Residents living on estates in Cannock Chase are being encouraged to ‘Love your Block’ as part of a campaign urging tenants to take pride in where they live.

Over the last 12 months, Cannock Chase Council’s Estate Management team has made various improvements to various housing blocks. Tenants have seen their communal areas refurbished and transformed into clean, bright and welcoming spaces.

Staffordshire County Council’s Highways team has joined forces with the Council’s Environmental Services team to carry out environmental improvements to the outside areas which has improved the external appearance of the estates.

‘Love your Block’ aims to maintain the standard of these improvements by encouraging tenants to get involved and become a Resident Champion. This will help keep the appearance of the communal areas clean and tidy.

The project - 'Changing Places' - Beecroft Road Underpass has involved participation from local community groups, businesses and shoppers to design and create this piece of art.
