Cannock Chase Council has been successful in securing £585,000 investment from the Unlocking Stalled Housing Sites Programme to support the delivery of new homes across the area.
The Council is committed to the scheme and will build 39 affordable homes for rent across 11 sites in the District .Five sites are currently underway and the remaining six sites have recently obtained planning permission. The scheme is due to be completed by September 2018.
The investment includes private and Council housing. Private housing sites benefitting from the fund include Anglesey Real Estate which has completed a ten-unit site, Craig & Watts Holdings who is working on almost 40 new homes and Anglesey Estates Bridgetown who is delivering five units.
The Unlocking Stalled Housing Sites Programme launched in 2016 by the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP) and managed by Finance Birmingham, is designed to remove barriers to development. It is aiming to bring forward at least 500 new homes across the region within the next three years.
The programme provides grant and loan funding for stalled sites that are ready for development and is intended to support mixed tenure schemes of between 10 and 100 homes.
Councillor Gordon Alcott, Deputy Leader of the Council and Economic Development and Planning Portfolio Leader said, “I am delighted that the GBSLEP have granted us this funding to help build new homes in the Cannock Chase area. We welcome any help we get from the GBSLEP as this investment has enabled the Council to extend former garage sites and deliver the Other Council Owned Land Development Scheme with additional sites being brought forward for development. It has also helped to increase the number of new Council houses being built which is something that would not have been possible without the funding”.
