Be part of our local community games and bring the inspiration to Cannock Chase District.
The Chase Community Games provides a great opportunity for you to bring your community together as well as showcasing local sporting and cultural activities.
The next Commonwealth Games in 2022 will be hosted by Birmingham and will take place between 28 July and 8 August.
As you’ll be aware, the exciting news for Cannock Chase District is that we will be playing a part in this international sporting event when we host the men’s and women’s mountain biking. This event will take place on 3 August at Birches Valley.
The Council is working closely with Inspiring healthy lifestyles (IHL) and the Cannock Chase Cultural Education Partnership (CCCEP) on a local ‘Chase Community Games’ programme which will incorporate activities, events and legacy opportunities for young people and the wider community as part of the celebrations.
If you would like to be part of this programme and are organising your own celebrations, please email details through to communications@cannockchasedc.gov.uk and a member of our team will be in touch.
UPDATES IN PROGRESS...
Woodland Wonder Festival (schools only)
Woodland Wonder Festival was held on Thursday 7 July at Cannock Chase Forest (Birches Valley). The event included lots of fun cultural and sporting elements around the Pedal and Play trail and grassy arena area.
As this was an official 'Bring the Power' Schools Festival, we also had a visit from Perry the Commonwealth Games mascot and Sarah-Jayne Perry who competed in the squash event this summer. Schools from the District were invited to take part in this exciting and fun event.
Schools also had the opportunity to sign up to a 'Celebrate the Commonwealth' workshop where children created artwork for large flags that were on display at the event as well as the Queen's Baton Relay in Hednesford and the mountain biking event at Cannock Chase Forest.
Here's a short video which captures the magic from the day and shows how we celebrated the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with children and young people. Click on the image to watch the video.
