The Council is looking to appoint local people to serve on the Independent Remuneration Panel to assist in reviewing its Members’ Allowances Scheme.

The Panel considers and makes recommendations relating to the allowances paid to elected Councillors, together with recommendations about the roles and responsibilities for which allowances should be payable.

There are up to 3 vacancies and applications are sought by lay persons, local residents, or people who work in the area.  It is not necessary to have any Local Government experience, but you must be able to demonstrate an open mind, have a strong commitment to the local area and local matters and finally have no political affiliations.

The Council’s Monitoring Officer, Alistair Welch, said, “The Independent Remuneration Panel Members play an important role in recognising the work and commitment shown by those who give up their own time to act as Councillors.  Councillors are not paid a salary, but receive allowances towards their time and costs incurred in acting as a Councillor.  The Panel members are fair minded local people without direct links to the Council, who regularly review the levels of the Councillors allowances to ensure that they remain appropriate.”

The Independent Remuneration Panel will meet on 3-4 occasions between October 2015 and January 2016, normally during office hours, with any recommendations made by the panel applying for a period of 2 years.

Appointments will be for an initial term of 3 years, for which an allowance of £220 per annum will be paid.

To be eligible you must not be a Councillor or an employee of the Council.  In addition you must not be related to, or be a friend of any Councillor or employee of Cannock Chase Council or any of the Parish/Town Councillors within the Cannock Chase area.

Anyone interested in applying should send a CV together with a covering letter explaining why you think you would be a suitable candidate to:
