The Good Junior Citizen Award is launched for young people in the District.
The Good Junior Citizen Award is open to pupils in years 5 and 6, who have made a positive contribution to the local community and/or the quality of the local environment.
Nominations can be made by anyone in the District, as long as they are not related to the young person and can be for an individual or a group or class.
The Good Junior Citizen Award was originally established by the Council in 2013, to recognise the positive contributions young people were making to their community; this was in response to work done with Bridgtown Primary School .
Since then the scheme has seen over 50 awards made to individuals from a number of local schools, who have welcomed the scheme.
The Council is now publicising the scheme in the hope of attracting further nominations and honouring more worthy young people in the District.
Councillor Alan Dudson , Portfolio Leader for Environment said "I am pleased that this award scheme is now being offered to the wider District. It is good for young people to see that their efforts are being recognised. Far too often they face criticism that many do not deserve. In acknowledging and rewarding good behaviour we hope to encourage the younger generation to adopt a more positive and responsible attitude towards the environment and other people."
Successful recipients of the award will each receive a certificate and goody bag and will be entered into an annual prize draw to win a £50 voucher.
