Investment into bus shelters in the District

Six bus shelters in the District have been replaced as part of an ongoing replacement and refurbishment programme.

The bus shelter replacement and refurbishment programme has replaced bus shelters in the following locations: 

  • Hednesford Road, Rugeley - Adjacent to Junction of Lower Birches Way
  • Uxbridge Street, Hednesford opposite no.14/16
  • Wolverhampton Road, Cannock outside Longford House/Premier Inn
  • Bradbury Lane, Hednesford opposite no.164
  • Lichfield Road, Cannock outside ASDA
  • Longford Road opposite Mosswood Street

The two year programme will see £48,000 invested into the replacement of thirteen bus shelters and the refurbishment of five implemented during 2015-16 and 2016-17 with £24,000 expenditure during each financial year.

Councillor Alan Dudson , Portfolio Holder for Environment said "Following an audit there were a number of bus shelters identified for repair or replacement due to health and safety reasons. 

Priority has been given to those bus shelters in the worst condition and those located on roads which provide the "main gateways" to the District.  There were also 11 bus shelters replaced/refurbished during 2013-14 and 2014-15."

The Council is responsible for maintaining 70 bus shelters, including 16 at the Cannock and Rugeley bus stations.
