The Cannock Chase Local Plan 2018 to 2040 was adopted at the 23rd March 2026 Council meeting. It is designed to guide and manage the development of the District and replaces the existing Cannock Chase Local Plan (Part 1) 2014. For more information please refer to the Local Plan webpage.

A Design Guide for Cannock Chase
Cannock Chase District Council have been working of a Local Design Guide Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) which will form a key piece of guidance for helping to promote high quality design in new developments. It will provide up to date guidance for planning applications informed by recent evidence base work and supports the Cannock Chase Local Plan 2018 – 2040 to build upon and provide more detailed advice on the design policies set out in the adopted Local Plan.
Current Consultation – Tuesday 28th April to 5pm on Tuesday 26th May 2026.
The Draft Local Design Guide SPD and supporting documents have been published as part of a statutory consultation and are available to view below:

Strategic Environmental Assessment Scoping and Determination Report
The Council are also seeking comments on the Draft Local Design Guide SPD Strategic Environmental Assessment Scoping and Determination Report. The report concludes that a Strategic Environmental Assessment was not required for the Cannock Chase Design Guide SPD.
The documents are also available to view at the following venues during normal opening hours: Cannock Chase Civic Centre, Cannock Library, Brereton Library, Heath Hayes Library, Hednesford Library, Norton Canes Library and Rugeley Library.
How to Comment
The Council invites representation to be made on the Design Guide between Tuesday 28th April 2026 until 5pm on Tuesday 26th May 2026.
