Cannock Park has a new leafy resident – and it needs a name!

A stunning topiary dinosaur has taken root in Cannock Park, bringing a touch of prehistoric fun to the popular green space. Planted with support from the Trees for Climate programme, this unique feature is already turning heads and is set to become a local landmark.

Now, Cannock Chase Council is calling on local children and families to help officially name the dinosaur by entering the ‘Name the Dinosaur’ competition.

Cannock Chase Council is celebrating the early completion of its first four-year parks improvement programme, which has been delivered a year ahead of schedule.

In just three years, the Council has invested over £1.54 million to improve and enhance seven local parks and play areas, significantly boosting recreational opportunities for children, young people, and families across the district.

In a bid to protect our communities from car thefts, Cannock Chase Council are offering residents a free signal blocking tool, known as a faraday pouch, to store their car key in.  This is thanks to funding received from the Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime.

Keyless car thefts continue to be a problem across the UK. Criminals use a relay device to transmit the signal to owners’ cars. The car thinks the actual key is close by and unlocks itself and allows the engine to be started.

Residents and park users are being invited to share their views on the second phase of the Cannock Park Master plan, which aims to shape the future of this much-loved green space. 

The consultation follows the recent engagement on the design of the new play area and now expands to cover the entire park, including the golf course.

A group of local authorities in southern and mid Staffordshire has today written to the Minister of State responsible for English Devolution with an interim plan for local government reorganisation.

In response to the government’s English Devolution White Paper local authorities are required to submit their initial preference to Jim McMahon, Minister of State for Local Government and English Devolution before final submissions are made in November 2025.

The leader of Cannock Chase District Council said he would prefer to be part of a ‘Southern Unitary’ if government proposals to scrap local councils go ahead.

He was speaking at a specially arranged meeting for councillors on Monday (17 March) to discuss a report on proposals for local government reorganisation. 

The Government ‘White Paper on Devolution’ has paved the way for all district, borough, small unitary and county councils in Staffordshire to be abolished - to be replaced with new larger unitary authorities. 

Cannock Chase Council is appealing to residents across Cannock Chase to pledge to pick one bag of litter - or more - for Keep Britain Tidy’s 10th Great British Spring Clean. 

Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign, which runs from 21 March - 6 April, is calling residents across Cannock Chase to show they love where they live by taking part in the mass action litter pick, during Britain’s favourite environmental charity’s clean-up campaign.
