Queen’s Baton Relay coming to Cannock Chase

This month we will welcome the Queen’s Baton Relay to Cannock Chase. 

It will come to the District on Saturday 23 July, when it passes through Rugeley, Hednesford and Cannock. The baton will end its 294-day journey in Birmingham on 28 July, the day of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.

There will be 13 Batonbearers who will carry the Baton through planned routes in Rugeley, Hednesford and Cannock. Three of the Batonbearers are local people: Shaun Middleton from Hednesford, Lisa Wilson from Cannock and Craig Corrigan from Rugeley.

Consultation aims for improved standards in shared rented houses

Cannock Chase Council are undertaking a consultation on new draft Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) Space and Amenity Standards, covering rented properties let on a shared or room by room basis.

 

The standards, outline to landlords, agents and tenants what is expected in HMOs operating within Cannock Chase with the aim of delivering safe, quality, well managed housing.

Cannock Chase Council’s Environmental Health Department have successfully prosecuted a Walsall resident for a Duty of Care offence following the fly tipping of waste in Cannock Chase. 

On 21 June 2022 Ms Fallon Arrowsmith, of Hardy Road, Walsall, pleaded guilty to a duty of care offence after household waste was found fly tipped on Fishley Lane, Cannock. 

Come along and celebrate Armed Forces Day

This year, the District will celebrate Armed Forces Day with a free community fun day.

The Armed Forces Day flag will be raised at the Civic Centre in Cannock today (20 June) as part of Cannock Chase Council’s contribution to this year’s Armed Forces Day, which takes place on Saturday 25 June across the nation.

Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the nation to show their support and appreciation for the contributions made by those who serve or have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.

Play area refurbishments approved at Wellington Drive

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet have approved to spend £168,000 on refurbishments to the existing play area on the Wellington Drive site in Cannock.

Significant development has taken place in the Cannock South Ward over the last 10 years.  The Council will utilise section 106 monies from these developments to fund the project.

The existing play area was last updated in 2001.  It has no provision for inclusive play and has no direct access for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Council’s Cabinet approve Private Sector Housing Strategy

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet have approved the updated five-year Private Sector Housing Strategy.

More people are now living in private rented housing than ever before, and this trend is likely to continue.  The strategy has been updated because of this growth and because tenant demand for accommodation is high.  The strategy contains three key commitments:

1. Support through education and advice

2. Ensure safe and healthy homes (with enforcement as appropriate)

3. Improve energy efficiency

Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet have approved, the revised leisure concessions for specific residents in the District.

This year residents that receive any of the following benefits and care leavers between 18-25, will qualify for a concessionary membership.

New bedding plants for Stadium site

Cannock Chase Council in partnership with Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles, the Community Lottery funded, Chase Up team, and The Friends of Cannock Stadium have planted seasonal bedding plants at the Stadium Site on Pye Green Road.

The planting project was approved in March 2020, when Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet approved to spend £25,000, to improve the site through the planting of flower beds, landscape improvement works and the inclusion of an eco-trail. The money has been allocated from Section 106 funds, collected from housing developments in the Pye Green area.

Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner visits Cannock Chase Council

Staffordshire’s Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner, Ben Adams, has made his first visit to a Community Safety Hub meeting in the county.

Accompanied by his deputy, Helen Fisher, he was invited to the Civic Centre at Cannock Chase Council to take part in the weekly meeting of the Chase Community Partnership Community Safety Hub. This brings together partner organisations to discuss ongoing community safety issues in the District.
