A report to Cannock Chase Council’s Cabinet has highlighted the impact the withdrawal of the Supporting People grant funding will have on vulnerable people in the District.

Supporting People funding helps the most vulnerable people in the District, such as single homeless with support needs or teenage parents, withdrawal of this funding means these people could lose their support networks and accommodation.

Cannock Chase Council’s Chairman will be raising the flag for Commonwealth Day.

Fly the Flag for Commonwealth is a way for people in their local communities to join with others nationwide and become more involved, showing their appreciation for the Commonwealth.

The initiative is now in its third year and will see more than 850 flags raised around the world at 10am on Monday 14^th March.

Cannock Chase Council is working in conjunction with Councils in Staffordshire and local fleet operators in a new scheme to improve air quality on local roads.

The ECO Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme was launched by the consortium of eight Councils at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton upon Trent last month.

 The free scheme helps fleet operators improve their efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and emissions and make cost savings.

On Tuesday 8th March the leisure centre and golf course are now fully open and a clean-up operation is underway.

We understand residents’ concerns and would like to assure them that we have acted on this matter as swiftly as possible.  Residents are reminded that there is a legal process that the Council has to follow and we are very much in the hands of the court as to when the travellers can be evicted.

The task force set up to work together to look at ways to mitigate the impact of the proposed closure of Rugeley Power Station and establish future uses of the Rugeley Power Station site has met for the first time.

Time to clean some space on your fridge, as the new waste and recycling calendars are on their way to residents in the District.

The new calendars will be distributed to 44,000 households in the District over the next few weeks.

This year’s calendar forms part of an information booklet which residents can keep on their fridge as a permanent recycling reminder.  It gives valuable information such as what goes in which bin and a reminder that food waste is no longer accepted in the brown bin.

Cannock Chase Council is backing a national campaign to get a million people out and about and cleaning up their community.

The ‘Clean For The Queen’ campaign aims to tidy up the country ahead of The Queen’s 90^th birthday in April.  The whole country is having a big clear up on the weekend of 4-6^th March.

The Council are encouraging and supporting people who want to ‘do their bit’ to help clear up the litter that blights our District.  There are a number of litter pick walks taking place as follows:

Stalled housing developments in the Cannock Chase District could receive help thanks to funding from the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP).

The Unlocking Housing Sites Programme which launched this week could see housing developers in Staffordshire and surrounding areas access a new £9million fund to unlock stalled housing sites.

The Environment Agency is inviting local residents and businesses to attend a drop-in event to discuss proposals for the Rugeley flood risk management scheme.
