This week, Cannock Chase Council is launching a campaign to tackle fly-tipping that is affecting areas across the District.

With people spending more time at home due to Covid-19, Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) have seen a huge rise in people wanting to dispose of unwanted items. This has led to an increase in fly-tipping locally, with the Council’s Environmental Health team receiving over 439 reports of fly-tipping across the District since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Cannock’s rail station and car park are getting a makeover. The new short-term improvements are being made in time for the opening of the new McArthurGlen Designer Outlet at nearby Mill Green, which is due to open for business in the next few months.

Over 80 murals are being installed on the rear of the railway station platforms and the access walkways leading to and from the station’s two platforms. The images, provided by local photographers Anthony Dunn and Michelle Williams  are of local scenes, landmarks and points of interest from around the District.



Extra Street Market in Cannock this Christmas

Following the successful relaunch of the Street Market, Bescot Promotions have confirmed an additional market day in the run up to Christmas.

The extra market day will take place on Monday 21 December, will be in addition to the Tuesday and Friday markets, which are open every week from 9am until 4pm.

Cannock Street Market was relaunched on Friday 4 December with 86 stalls; a mixture of existing market traders and new.  

New Additional Restrictions Grant available to local businesses

Eligible businesses who continue to be affected by Government restrictions around Covid-19 are being invited to apply for an Additional Restrictions Grant from Cannock Chase Council.

Grants of up to £1,500 per fortnight can be claimed from a pot of nearly £2m, which is available to support businesses following the end of the national lockdown on 2 December. It is aimed at businesses that, while not required to close, are finding trading very difficult due to the effects of the pandemic. This will include businesses who do not currently pay business rates.

Unfortunately, due to the first wave of the pandemic we were unable to produce our usual summer edition.  However, we 're pleased to say that we've been able to produce our winter edition and this will be delivered, in the next couple of weeks. 

The focus of this edition is how the Council responded to the Covid-19 pandemic, continued to deliver Council services and support vulnerable people in the District, during these unprecedented times.

Partnership offers useful safety tips this Christmas

12 days to a safer christmas

The Chase Community Safety Partnership is helping residents stay safe again this Christmas with the relaunch of its campaign ’12 days to a safer Christmas’.

The festive season can be a very busy time during which it’s easy to take your eye off the ball when it comes to crime prevention. The campaign will run from 7 December until 22 December and will remind people how to keep safe and within the law during the lead up to the festive period.

Football Foundation pitches in to fund new artificial grass pitch in Rugeley

Cannock Chase Council has been successful in securing a grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation to construct a new full sized third generation artificial grass football pitch at Rugeley Leisure Centre.

The award from the Football Foundation of £460,016 will be added to funds provided by Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles of £155,000 and £194,999 from Cannock Chase Council’s own Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) to provide a total investment of £810,015, benefitting local footballers with a state of the art new pitch.

Free parking in Council owned car parks this December

Following from the Leader’s announcement at the Council meeting on 25 November, we are pleased to announce that parking charges have been suspended in all Council owned car parks across the District on the three Saturday’s leading up to Christmas

In a bid to boost town centre trade, encourage residents to support our town centres and shop local, it will be free to park in all Council owned car parks in the District on Saturday 5 December, Saturday 12 December and Saturday 19 December.
