Repair works of the swimming pool at Rugeley Leisure Centre will be completed early 2021.

Inspiring healthy lifestyles (IHL) who manage the swimming pool on behalf of the Council identified problems with the tiling in the pool, which was drained during lockdown, to determine the extent of the issue and carry out assessments on the pool.

Tests have been conducted on the pool, pipelines and water tanks over the last few weeks to pinpoint the potential water leak and reasons behind failed tiling.

Cannock Chase Council is delighted to announce that the Tuesday street market in Cannock Town Centre will return on Tuesday 1 September.

E G Skett & Co, the street market operator trialled a Tuesday street market last year.  The success of this market means that Cannock’s regular street market will now take place on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9am until 4pm.

Cannock Chase Council will be placing a new recycling sticker on all of the blue recycling bins in the District over the next few weeks.

The purpose of this recycling campaign is to make it clearer to residents what items can be recycled and put in their blue bin. Only household items identified on the sticker can be put in the blue recycling bin.  If blue bins are found to contain any other items they will tagged and not emptied.

Residents and workers in Cannock are being urged to book a COVID-19 test if they have symptoms of the virus, after a new testing site opens in the town tomorrow. (Saturday 22 August).

Anyone with coronavirus symptoms, however mild, can get a free swab test that takes less than a minute. Tests should be booked or ordered as soon as symptoms begin at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus  or by calling 119 and you can expect your result the next day.

Museum of Cannock Chase will re-open its’ doors Thursday 27 August.

Inspiring healthy lifestyles who manage the Museum of Cannock Chase on behalf of Cannock Chase District Council have announced the museum, which plays an important part in historical and cultural offering of the region, will re-open its doors after it forced to close its’ doors shortly before lockdown in March.

The re-opening will include The Toy Gallery, Domestic Galleries and Mining Gallery with some interactive features remaining closed for now including the toy room.

Despite the government announcement that outdoor pools can re-open the Council have decided that due to health and safety requirements and the measures that would need to be put in place to ensure social distancing and everyone’s safety, the paddling pool in Ravenhill Park will remain closed this summer and will not re-open during 2020.

The commemorative World War 1 Beacon created in 2018 to mark the centenary of the end of the war is being permanently installed in the grounds of St Luke’s Church in Cannock this week as a lasting legacy to the District’s World War 1 commemorative programme.

Since 2014, Cannock Chase Council has worked closing with Inspiring healthy lifestyles (IHL) and the wider community to commemorate World War 1 and honour those that fought and lost their lives during this period.

Cannock Chase Council’s tennis coaching partner, Cheslyn Hay Tennis Club has scooped the 2020 Communities and Parks Award at the virtual LTA Awards last week.

Cheslyn Hay Tennis Club; who have over 200 players, continue to deliver a range of coaching programmes, including Tennis for Free at Cannock Park and Hednesford Park.

Cannock Chase Council has revoked the premises licence for the Hen House Sports and Music Bar in Market Street, Hednesford after people were found to have been drinking and in contravention of the regulations introduced by government in March.

News that a new Digital Skills Academy is to be established in Cannock and Tamworth by South Staffordshire College has been welcomed by Cannock Chase Council as it plans for economic recovery in the District.

The new academy is one of 11 `shovel ready` schemes put forward by Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) that have succeeded in attracting a share of the government’s £900million Getting Building Fund that has been announced. The intention is that all projects will be completed by March 2022.
