A Closure Order has been granted for a Cannock Chase Council property following ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour and drug use from the address.

Staffordshire Police, working in partnership with Cannock Chase Council’s Housing, Community Safety and Legal teams, has secured a three-month closure for an address on Avon Road in Cannock.

The order has been brought under the ASB Crime and Policing Act 2014 and prohibits any person from entering the premises, other than the legal tenants, emergency service workers and professionals. Anyone breaching the order could face imprisonment and/or a fine.

Councillor Sue Thornley, Portfolio Leader for Housing, said: “I am really happy that we have been able to stop the behaviour of a small number of people from affecting the wider community. We are committed to tackling anti-social behaviour and the harm it causes.”

Councillor Jo Elson, Portfolio Leader for Community Wellbeing, said: “The successful serving of this Closure Order highlights the value of partnership working in achieving a positive outcome for the local community, whose lives have been blighted by the anti-social behaviour linked to this address.”

Chief Inspector Laura Morrey, of the Cannock local policing team, said: “Anti-social behaviour can blight the lives of communities and unfortunately this address has caused issues for local residents for far too long.

“We have worked with partners in attempts to reduce the anti-social behaviour before seeking a Closure Order. This will be policed rigidly and anybody not adhering to the order will be dealt with in accordance with the powers that this order gives.

“I hope that this will send out a message that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and give some much-needed respite to the local community.

“We would encourage anyone who is affected by anti-social behaviour to call us directly on 101 or send a message using the Live Chat function on our website. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
