A call has gone out for people to put their names forward to help decide how £20 million of Government funding will be spent in an area of Cannock over the next decade.

The council is looking to recruit an independent chair and members of a new ‘Neighbourhood Board’ to shape long term investment over the next ten years in a specific area of Chadsmoor.

Cannock Chase Council is delighted to announce that its Housing, Building Safety team has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The team has been nominated for Safety and Compliance Team of the Year at the ASCP Awards 2026, hosted by the Association of Safety Compliance Professionals. The awards recognise teams that demonstrate outstanding achievements in collaboration, innovation, dedication to high standards, and a strong commitment to improving safety outcomes for residents.

Cannock Chase Council is calling on local children and young people to get creative this summer by helping to name its brand-new fleet of food waste collection wagons.

Open to children aged 16 and under, the competition invites young residents to come up with creative and memorable names for the six new wagons. Each winning name will be proudly displayed on the vehicle as it travels across Cannock Chase, giving winners a lasting sense of pride in their contribution.

Cannock Chase Council raised the Armed Forces Day flag on Monday 22 June to mark the start of Armed Forces Week, paying tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community.

The ceremony took place outside the Civic Suite in Cannock, with a speech delivered by the Chair of the Council, Councillor Andrea Muckley, alongside a blessing from Reverend Stephen Reynolds from St. Luke’s.  Councillor John Parkes was invited to raise the flag in recognition of his exceptional and ongoing commitment to supporting veterans and service personnel.

Cannock Chase Council is marking Insect Week (22–28 June) with a series of fun, family friendly activities across local parks and nature reserves, encouraging residents to get outdoors and discover the fascinating world of insects. 

Insect Week is a national celebration designed to inspire people of all ages to learn about insects and understand the vital role they play in supporting healthy ecosystems.

Young learners from South Staffordshire College were celebrated for their outstanding contributions to local green spaces at a special Celebration Day held at Hednesford Park last week.

The event brought together partners, community leaders and college representatives to recognise a year of hands-on learning and meaningful environmental work delivered through a successful collaboration between Cannock Chase Council (CCDC), South Staffordshire College and Cannock Chase National Landscape.

Cannock Chase Council is celebrating major recognition after being shortlisted in two categories at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) West Midlands Awards for Planning Excellence 2026.

The Council has been shortlisted for Planning Authority of the Year, recognising the outstanding achievements of its Planning Service, alongside a second shortlisting for Young Planner of the Year, awarded to Interim Planning Policy Team Leader Grace Lockley.

Cannock Chase Council is inviting residents to have their say on proposals for a new Dog Control Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), aimed at helping to keep parks, streets, and open spaces safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone.

The proposed PSPO sets out measures designed to promote responsible dog ownership and protect shared public areas. These include:

Three former councillors have been made honorary Aldermen and Alderwoman at a special meeting (Wednesday 20 May).

Les Bullock, Justin Johnson and Sheila Cartwright notched up more than 45 years’ service between them on Cannock Chase District Council.

The recommendation in a report to the council asked that Members conferred the title of Alderman and Alderwoman in ‘recognition of their eminent service to the district.’ The recommendation was unanimously agreed.

Certificates of recognition will be presented to them at a meeting of the full council in July.

The new leader of Cannock Chase Council is Paul Jones.

Councillor Jones is the Reform Group leader on the district council and represents the Hednesford Green Heath Ward. He was voted in as leader at the annual council meeting yesterday evening (Wednesday 20 May).

He takes over from Steve Thornley.

The current political make-up of the council is that Reform has 14 seats, Labour 10 seats, with eight seats for the Conservatives, three for the Green Party and one Independent.
