Cannock Chase Council is celebrating after six of its parks and green spaces were once again recognised among the very best in the country through the prestigious Green Flag Award scheme.

Cannock Park, Castle Ring, Elmore Park, Hednesford Park, Ravenhill Park and Stile Cop Cemetery have all successfully retained their Green Flag Awards for 2026/27.

Castle Ring has also achieved the Green Heritage Site Accreditation for the management and promotion of its historic features.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the internationally recognised Green Flag Award, which sets the benchmark for the management of parks and green spaces across the UK and beyond.

The six Cannock Chase sites are among a record-breaking 2,391 locations across the UK to receive the award this year. The achievement reflects the commitment, hard work and dedication of the Council’s parks and grounds teams, who work year-round to ensure these valued community spaces remain safe, welcoming and well maintained for residents and visitors.

Councillor John Parkes Operational Services and Parks Portfolio Leader said: “We are delighted that all six of our sites have once again achieved Green Flag Award status. These awards are a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our parks and grounds maintenance teams, volunteers and community groups who help us keep these spaces looking their best throughout the year.

“Our parks and green spaces play a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of residents, providing places to relax, exercise and connect with nature. We are particularly proud that Castle Ring has also retained its Green Heritage Site Accreditation, recognising the importance of preserving and promoting its rich history.

“I would encourage residents and visitors alike to take advantage of these fantastic spaces and join us in celebrating this well-deserved achievement.”

Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said: “Parks are essential public spaces that support our wellbeing, our communities and our economy.

“Cannock Chase Council have shown what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed. As we celebrate 30 years of the Green Flag Award, we want every community to have access to green spaces like this that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard.  Congratulations to everyone involved."

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under contract from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
