New year, new gym – all change at Rugeley Leisure Centre

Residents in Rugeley can now enjoy state-of-the-art equipment and a quality fitness experience following the completion of a £500,000 investment at Rugeley Leisure Centre.

It brings the total investment in leisure centres in Cannock Chase to more than £1.5M following the redevelopment of Chase Leisure Centre in early 2019.

Both Rugeley and Chase Leisure Centre are managed by Inspiring healthy lifestyles on behalf of Cannock Chase District Council.

Council seeks help with animal welfare case

Cannock Chase Council is asking for help to find the owner of a dog and a white Citroen Dispatch van registration SL09 WVK. On Monday 6 January the van was found unattended in Green Lane in Bridgtown near Cannock. In the rear of the van a dog was found chained to the floor with no food or water. The van may have been there for some time. It disappeared later that day.

Cannock Chase Council’s Environment Portfolio Leader, Councillor John Preece, has written to the Environment Agency `in the strongest terms` following public concerns over the `long term emission of foul odours` at the Poplars Landfill and Anaerobic Digestion site based on Lichfield Road in Cannock.

The site is managed by Biffa Waste Services Ltd.

Council supports dogs awaiting homing

Generous staff at Cannock Chase Council have made a bumper donation of food, toys and money to the Dogs Trust just in time for Christmas. 

Earlier this week, boxes and boxes of goodies were handed over to the Dogs Trust’s Rehoming Centre in Kenilworth.  Kind hearted staff throughout Council had made the donations to help give those dogs remaining there an even better Christmas.

The Dogs Trust provided full assistance, including transport and kennelling, when Environmental Health Officers recently seized 60 dogs from a house in Cannock.  

Noisy scrap metal collector convicted

Cannock Chase Council has prosecuted a Walsall man after he was found collecting scrap metal within Cannock without a licence. 

On 11 July Environmental Health Officers heard a familiar audio track replicating a bugle call that they knew to be used by rogue scrap metal collectors. The noise led them to Oxford Green in Rumer Hill where they found scrap metal being loaded into a white Ford Transit registration number GJ03 TNN.
